From Pumpkin to Pour: Why We Use Real Pumpkin in Our Fall Skincare
Share
As the leaves change and the air turns crisp—
Okay, not so much in Florida. It was 90 degrees on the fall equinox, but we are choosing to believe in cozy season anyway...
And nothing says cozy season quite like pumpkin.
At Vital Acre, pumpkin is more than a scent or a word printed on a seasonal label. We use the real thing, preparing it and infusing it into oil before incorporating it into two of our fall favorites: Perfectly Pumpkin Soap and Fireside Body Oil.
Because if we are going to make pumpkin skincare, there should probably be some actual pumpkin involved.
Why pumpkin?
Pumpkin earns its place in these formulas for more than its seasonal appeal—although the fact that it takes over nearly every available square inch of the farm each summer certainly helps.
Its rich orange color comes from carotenoids—fat-soluble antioxidant plant pigments that oil is well suited to extract. Infusing real pumpkin into oil allows those oil-soluble constituents to become part of the finished formula.
In Fireside Body Oil, I infuse real pumpkin into oil before blending it with other moisturizing botanical oils. The finished formula helps soften, nourish, and replenish dry-feeling skin as the weather changes.
In Perfectly Pumpkin Soap, real pumpkin contributes natural sugars that help support the bar’s rich, creamy lather while giving it a warm color and genuine connection to the season.
So, yes, pumpkin makes these products feel particularly appropriate for fall—but it is not included simply so I can put a pumpkin on the label. It contributes something meaningful to the formula, too.
Pumpkin from the inside out
Of course, pumpkin does not have to be in a skincare product to support healthy skin.
I have never believed that caring for our skin begins and ends with what we apply to it. Skin is part of the body, and nutrition, hydration, sleep, movement, sun exposure, and overall health all influence how it looks and feels.
Pumpkin provides beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A—a nutrient involved in normal cell growth, vision, immune function, and the maintenance of healthy skin. It also offers vitamin C, which the body needs to produce collagen, along with fiber and a variety of other nutrients and antioxidant plant compounds. In fact, I have a pumpkin roasting in the oven as I write this!
That does not mean a slice of pumpkin pie qualifies as a skincare routine—tragically. But pumpkin is a lovely example of an ingredient that can support us in more than one way: as nourishing food on the table and as a thoughtfully prepared botanical ingredient in the apothecary.
Healthy skin is supported from both directions.
What we put on it matters.
So does how we nourish the person living inside it.
Turning pumpkin into skincare
Before pumpkin can make its way into a Vital Acre formula, it has to be prepared and infused into oil.
It is not the quickest way to make a seasonal product. It would certainly be easier to open a bottle labeled “pumpkin spice,” add a few drops, and call it a day.
But growing, preparing, and working with real ingredients is part of what makes formulation interesting to me. I like knowing where an ingredient began and following it through the process until it reaches the finished bottle or bar.
That connection between the ingredient and the product is what farm-to-skin means at Vital Acre.
Perfectly Pumpkin Soap
Perfectly Pumpkin Soap is where the seasonal pumpkin story began.
Real pumpkin joins a warm essential-oil blend and a creamy soap formula to create a bar that feels right at home beside cooler mornings, hot showers, and the annual Florida tradition of pretending we need sweaters.
It is warm and gently spiced without smelling like a Glade Plug-In exploded in your shower.
Most importantly, it is still soap. It should cleanse well, feel good in your hands, and produce the creamy lather you expect from a Vital Acre bar.
The pumpkin makes it seasonal.
The formula makes it worth using.
From Perfectly Pumpkin to Fireside
For a few years, the matching body oil was called Perfectly Pumpkin Body Oil.
But as the formula and scent developed, I realized it had become something broader than pumpkin. It felt warm, grounding, and just a little spicy—the sort of scent that makes you think of fading light, cooler evenings, and gathering near a fire.
So Perfectly Pumpkin Body Oil became Fireside Body Oil.
The pumpkin-infused oil remains part of the formula, but the new name better captures the experience of using it. Fireside is a moisturizing body oil made for skin that wants a little extra attention as the season changes, with a warm scent that lingers close rather than announcing itself from across the room.
The Cozy Season Gift Set
Perfectly Pumpkin Soap and Fireside Body Oil now come together in the Cozy Season Gift Set, along with Orange + Vanilla Calendula Lip Balm.
It is a small collection of useful comforts:
- Fireside Body Oil for moisturizing after a shower
- Perfectly Pumpkin Soap for creamy everyday cleansing
- Orange + Vanilla Lip Balm for dry lips and pockets that are somehow always missing a lip balm
The set is ready to give, but it is equally appropriate for keeping. I will not tell anyone.
A season worth pretending for
Florida may not offer much in the way of crisp air or changing leaves, but that has never stopped us from embracing fall.
We can still make warm soap, reach for richer body oils, bake something involving cinnamon, and briefly consider wearing a sweater before changing our minds.
Pumpkin season does not have to be complicated—or limited to pie and porch decorations.
Sometimes it looks like real pumpkin slowly becoming an oil, that oil finding its way into a formula, and an ordinary evening shower feeling just a little more like fall.
